  19. o  Since its version 4, xpkmaster.library has a new feature: the internal "USER"
  20. packer.When using this one instead of a "normal" (NUKE,RAKE etc) method,
  21. information on the packed data is passed to a preferences protocol, allowing an
  22. AUTOMATIC, TRANSPARENT compression with the best xpk-sublib according to its
  23. filetype.(To say thing quickly, as there are MANY other features possible)

  25. o  All you have to do is configure your prefs once for all, then select
  26. "USER" in your tools as xpk-packer. And off you go! This is a feature we've
  27. been waiting for since a looong time!!!

  29. o Thanks to a shared structure (the XpkPrefsSemaphore), xpkmaster is able to
  30. "communicate" with an external, INDEPENDANT prefs system.Dirk Stoecker, the new xpk
  31. maintainer, has made his own "XpkPrefs" program. My "XpkCybPrefs" is an alternative,
  32. which claims (of course :) to be more powerful and flexible.
  33. You won't be disappointed I think.

  42. o  Once installed and configured, you will be able to use the "fake" USER
  43. packing method. There is NO Compressors/xpkUSER.library, it's just an
  44. internal xpk method signalling xpkmaster to pack the data using the prefs
  45. system.

  48. o  For those who use XFH, be happy: XpkCybPrefs FULLY works with it. That
  49. means all the packing on your HD can be 100% filetype-optimised!!
  50. Note: it works with all the programs using xpkmaster.library "normally" :-)

  53. Here is a quick summary of the features:

  56. * Extremely user-friendly GUI (by David "Reez" Le Corfec)

  58. * Data recognition/selection can be made on:
  59.    - FileType (uses datamaster.library) [Filesize conditions too!]
  60.    - TaskName pattern
  61.    - Efficiency parameter of USER (USER.25 , USER.95 etc)

  63. * Multipacking is possible (!). That means compression can be tried with multiple
  64. packing methods. 4 modes are possible:
  65.    - Best       : Best % compression factor
  66.    - Fastest    : Fastest depacking time (yes, autodepacking included!)
  67.    - Average    : A mix between previous ones.
  68.    - Ask        : Pops a requester, so you choose "by hand"

  70. * Optional report window with progress bars, statistics and all the hell...

  72. * "Quiet Tasks" list (useful for disabling output automatically when called from
  73.    Backup programs,XFH...)

  75. *  Memory optimization: The packing tests are done in a memory buffer or on a temp
  76.    file for those who are short on memory.
  77.    (if depacking is needed, it will NOT require any extra buffer!! :=)
